  35. This document describes a set of high conservation value river and wetland assets
  36. within the Montagu River and Welcome River catchments (Figure 1). It is one of five
  37. reports prepared under the Australian Government Water Fund (AGWF) focussing on
  38. high conservation value river and wetlands identified by the Tasmanian CFEV (the
  39. Conservation of Freshwater Ecosystem Values) framework. The assets described here
  40. are those located in areas likely to be directly affected by decisions made under Water
  41. Management Plans for the Montagu River and Welcome River catchments.
  42. The purpose of this report is to provide a summary of information on the biophysical
  43. characteristics and condition of assets of high conservation value for the purposes of:
  44. Describing the natural values (Conservation of Freshwater Ecosystem Values
  45. (CFEV) ‘biophysical classes’) and current condition of key, high conservation
  46. value river and wetland assets in the catchment.
  47. Listing the priority management issues at each asset, and the priority
  48. management actions for their protection/restoration.
  49. Listing the water-management related issues which need attention at each
  50. asset.
  51. The term asset used in this report refers to either:
  52. a specific wetland – mapped as a shape (or ‘polygons’, in GIS terminology) at
  53. the 1: 25,000 map scale.
  54. a group of adjacent lengths of river channel, made up of individual river
  55. sections (or ‘lines’) mapped at the 1: 25,000 scale.
  56. The biophysical descriptions provided here are based on elements described in the
  57. Tasmanian CFEV framework, supplemented by descriptions derived from focussed
  58. field surveys. The descriptions provide information on:
  59. The natural values (CFEV biophysical classes) at each asset – those
  60. characteristics which are or would be present in the asset under natural
  61. conditions.
  62. The current status or condition of the asset – both as measures of departure
  63. from the natural state and in relation to particular symptoms of condition (e.g.
  64. weeds).
  65. The descriptions target values, condition and management issues associated with:
  66. For river assets: instream and riparian vegetation, fish, benthic
  67. macroinvertebrates, fluvial geomorphology, overall river section and
  68. catchment status.
  69. For wetland assets: within-wetland and riparian vegetation, overall wetland and
  70. proximal catchment status." name="eprints.abstract" />

  244. &#13;
  245. This document describes a set of high conservation value river and wetland assets&#13;
  246. within the Montagu River and Welcome River catchments (Figure 1). It is one of five&#13;
  247. reports prepared under the Australian Government Water Fund (AGWF) focussing on&#13;
  248. high conservation value river and wetlands identified by the Tasmanian CFEV (the&#13;
  249. Conservation of Freshwater Ecosystem Values) framework. The assets described here&#13;
  250. are those located in areas likely to be directly affected by decisions made under Water&#13;
  251. Management Plans for the Montagu River and Welcome River catchments.&#13;
  252. The purpose of this report is to provide a summary of information on the biophysical&#13;
  253. characteristics and condition of assets of high conservation value for the purposes of:&#13;
  254. Describing the natural values (Conservation of Freshwater Ecosystem Values&#13;
  255. (CFEV) ‘biophysical classes’) and current condition of key, high conservation&#13;
  256. value river and wetland assets in the catchment.&#13;
  257. Listing the priority management issues at each asset, and the priority&#13;
  258. management actions for their protection/restoration.&#13;
  259. Listing the water-management related issues which need attention at each&#13;
  260. asset.&#13;
  261. The term asset used in this report refers to either:&#13;
  262. a specific wetland – mapped as a shape (or ‘polygons’, in GIS terminology) at&#13;
  263. the 1: 25,000 map scale.&#13;
  264. a group of adjacent lengths of river channel, made up of individual river&#13;
  265. sections (or ‘lines’) mapped at the 1: 25,000 scale.&#13;
  266. The biophysical descriptions provided here are based on elements described in the&#13;
  267. Tasmanian CFEV framework, supplemented by descriptions derived from focussed&#13;
  268. field surveys. The descriptions provide information on:&#13;
  269. The natural values (CFEV biophysical classes) at each asset – those&#13;
  270. characteristics which are or would be present in the asset under natural&#13;
  271. conditions.&#13;
  272. The current status or condition of the asset – both as measures of departure&#13;
  273. from the natural state and in relation to particular symptoms of condition (e.g.&#13;
  274. weeds).&#13;
  275. The descriptions target values, condition and management issues associated with:&#13;
  276. For river assets: instream and riparian vegetation, fish, benthic&#13;
  277. macroinvertebrates, fluvial geomorphology, overall river section and&#13;
  278. catchment status.&#13;
  279. For wetland assets: within-wetland and riparian vegetation, overall wetland and&#13;
  280. proximal catchment status.</p></div><table style="margin-bottom: 1em" cellpadding="3" class="not_ep_block" border="0"><tr><th valign="top" class="ep_row">Item Type:</th><td valign="top" class="ep_row">Report (Technical Report)</td></tr><tr><th valign="top" class="ep_row">Subjects:</th><td valign="top" class="ep_row"><a href="http://eprints.utas.edu.au/view/subjects/270700.html">270000 Biological Sciences &gt; 270700 Ecology and Evolution</a></td></tr><tr><th valign="top" class="ep_row">Collections:</th><td valign="top" class="ep_row">UNSPECIFIED</td></tr><tr><th valign="top" class="ep_row">ID Code:</th><td valign="top" class="ep_row">3159</td></tr><tr><th valign="top" class="ep_row">Deposited By:</th><td valign="top" class="ep_row"><span class="ep_name_citation"><span class="person_name">UTas Digital Archives Librarian</span></span></td></tr><tr><th valign="top" class="ep_row">Deposited On:</th><td valign="top" class="ep_row">11 Feb 2008 13:22</td></tr><tr><th valign="top" class="ep_row">Last Modified:</th><td valign="top" class="ep_row">11 Feb 2008 13:22</td></tr><tr><th valign="top" class="ep_row">ePrint Statistics:</th><td valign="top" class="ep_row"><a target="ePrintStats" href="/es/index.php?action=show_detail_eprint;id=3159;">View statistics for this ePrint</a></td></tr></table><p align="right">Repository Staff Only: <a href="http://eprints.utas.edu.au/cgi/users/home?screen=EPrint::View&amp;eprintid=3159">item control page</a></p>
